RIAS AWARDS 2025 SHORTLISTING FOR ATHRON HILL

Our rural housing project at Athron Hill has been shortlisted in the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Awards 2025. The RIAS Awards are Scotland’s national architecture awards, so this is fantastic recognition for our client Byzantian and the consultants and contractors involved in the project. We offer our congratulations to all those behind the other shortlisted buildings.

Located to the north of Kinross and Milnathort, Athron Hill seeks to reconsider the orthodox approach taken by volume housebuilders in the delivery of new private developer-led homes in the rural landscape. Formerly home to a convalescent hospital, the development transforms the abandoned brownfield site to stitch a new community of homes into a mature woodland, perched on the south-facing slopes of Perthshire’s Ochil Hills.

Inspired by the loose settlement patterns of Perthshire’s historic clachans and villages, the homes are tuned to respond to the particularities of the immediate setting to exploit sunlight, topography, connections to the landscape, and the stunning views out over Loch Leven, the Lomond Hills and the Pentlands beyond.

We hope the development will be viewed as an exemplar in the delivery of new homes to help tackle the housing emergency affecting our rural and island communities.
