Ayla studied at the University of Edinburgh and graduated with a Distinction in 2017. Throughout her studies she fostered an interest in northern climates and communities working on projects based in Norway, Copenhagen and the Western Isles. She also developed a hands-on attitude which was furthered by attending Tog Studio, a live build construction school offering young architects an opportunity to gain first-hand experience on a current construction project.
Funded by the UK Research Councils’ Lifelong Health and Wellbeing programme, Ayla’s final university project ‘The Age of Loneliness, A Silent Epidemic’ contributed to the research project ‘Mood, Mobility and Place’ focussing on Intergenerational co-design for age-friendly places.
Following university Ayla began her career at Daykin Marshall Studio in London gaining experience working on a series of residential and community led projects across the UK as well as installations and small exhibitions with a focus on craftsmanship and close client relationships. She then relocated to Edinburgh and joined Fraser/Livingstone architects in November 2020.
