FLA have won an invited competition for a series of Net Zero Accelerator Hubs for 4 Colleges of Further Education, at West Lothian, Edinburgh, Fife and the Scottish Borders Colleges. These are to teach the newbuild and retrofit skills needed by industry, both to students and retrained construction professionals, and so are to be exemplars of healthy, carbon-lock and circular economy construction, as well as be adaptable, extendable and hardwearing.
The proposal, as drawn, is for a timber structure in laminated veneered lumber with cross laminated timber infill panels and sawtoothed north lights. Different internal pods will provide classroom space with rougher teaching and training in the warehouse space and access to roofs and external yards.
The team includes Luths Services on carbon and services, and Hardies on costs.
